this is a long shot i know but does anyone out there know if i’m actually allowed to fish the river here for free. i’ve gone fishing here a couple of times and never been approached by anyone saying that i’m not allowed to fish here. after speaking to the owner of my local tackle shop he thinks its possible it may be a private syndicate trout water. i’m not intentionally trying to catch the trout here but in 2 sessions i’ve had over 20 trout out which have all been put back.
I have never owned a fish before but I have got my heart set on owning a celestial goldfish. They are so beautiful, they live fairly short lives for goldfish and they need special care which they won’t be getting at a pet store. I know this isn’t an ideal fish time fish though I am thoroughly preparing myself. I have already read many books and websites on goldfish care and have tried to find out more about the optimum care for a celestial goldfish specifically. Though I have found many inconsistencies in the advice I have found. I would be very grateful if someone with more knowledge of fish care could help me in understanding how to make my future goldfish are as happy and healthy as possible.
Current advice I have found specific to celestial goldfish include:
1. No tank lighting. This can hurt their eyes. Though natural plants are apparently essential as fake ones could hurt the delicate eye area. Though they probably won’t grow well without adequate lighting.
2. No sharp objects which they can harm their delicate eyes on. This includes statues and plastic plants. Some smooth rocks or drift wood allowed.
3. One website has recommended the use of sand instead of gravel (to protect eyes) and one has recommended the use of gravel.
4.One website told me not to use a filtration system as this can hurt these delicate goldfish. Though celestial goldfish have a very low tolerance for pollution. One website mentioned that if you don’t use a filter with general goldfish you would have to do daily 100% water changes, causing the fish a lot of stress. Yet another website especially emphasised the importance of a water filter with this variate of goldfish.
5.Feed flake, fresh or frozen food.
6.Its best to keep them with other celestial goldfish…and I am.
7. There more sensitive to temperature changes. I will be using a heater.
I am aware of the minimum necessary standards for effective goldfish care. They grow to a maximum of 5 inches so an 18 gallon tank would give more than 60cm squared for each 1cm of fish. Though I may get a bigger tank, especially if people on here particularly recommend it.
I’m sorry this long and complicated though I would be so grateful for any advice! The inconsistencies in what I have been recommended by various websites has me confused and lost. Any help in deciding exactly what to include or leave out of my tank to make my fish as happy as possible would be fab. Even if your not sure of everything.
Thank you!

I remember as a child reading a book about a private detective who was a shark. I think he had a sidekick who was a fish and the two solved mysteries under the sea. The book was part of a series featuring these characters.
Can anyone remember the title of the book or series?
The side eye entrance is made up of net and a 5.5″ aluminum ring. It is attached in the same way as the parlour net with the semi automatic hogring plier.
A Piece of twine is attached to each side of the parlour net and then pulled tight and knotted. This keeps the parlour net ramp tight and stops it from falling into the parlour and prevents the lobsters from climbing back out.
