Hi, before we start I just want to make clear that I am not particularly an advocate for eating meat or for not eating meat. I am not trying to pick a fight with anyone, nor do I want to go over the possible rights or wrongs of meat eating. cool.
Ok bear with me…One of my favourite books is called "An island to oneself" by an Kiwi called Tom Neale. He spent many years living by himself on a remote tropical island in the pacific ocean. He did have a few chickens so had a few eggs and sometimes white meat, but his main diet was vegetables (wild and cultivated, he had a small garden) coconuts, and fish/shellfish.
Anyway one day by chance a yacht stopped by and he had a visitor for the first time in years. After the visitors left he decided to build a kind of jetty on the off chance that he had any more visitors later on. He spent several weeks hauling big lumps of coral and rock and building his jetty; extremely hard physical work. During this period he noticed his health slowly going down, what he describes as a general lack of vitality, nothing specific. Eventually he started passing out and became too weak to barely move at all.
During all this time he was on his usual his diet of fish, eggs, chicken and vegetables that he had been on for the past several years. After a desperate few weeks of ill health a turtle happened to wash up on shore which he promptly killed and ate (turtle meat is red meat and very rich). Almost immediately his health and vitality improved and returned to normal. He concludes in his book that man can live very happily without red meat, but if he has to do very hard physical work then red meat is essential. He had of course been very physically active on his usual diet before then (fishing, building, gardening etc) but he thinks it was the extreme nature of the labour of making the jetty that made the red meat necessary.
What do you think about his story and his conclusion? Particularly does anyone have any *personal experience* of very hard prolonged physical work while on a non red meat diet? It sounds to me like he had a mineral deficiency of some kind, but I would have thought the symptoms of that would have manifested long before, as he’d been on the island several years? Does this mean that people who don’t eat red meat can only sustain that diet as long as they don’t do extreme labour?
(again I am not attacking non-mean eaters, I just have always been curious)

I enjoy fishing, and whilst not entirely a novice, I have only been fishing for about four years. I went fishing in York this weekend, and only had one bite all match. As luck would have it, I landed the fish, but there must be something I’m not doing, or not doing right. The person who won the match did so with over 60lb of fish!
I don’t pole fish, opting instead for feeder or float fishing. I have read countless books and magazines on this, I have a vast collection of fishing tackle, and I study which baits to use when and where and at what time of the year.
Am I missing something, or am I just unlucky? Maybe I am destined to be a mediocre fisherman all my life!?
Has anyone else suffered this, and if so, how did they improve?
Bought it to read on a plane some 15 years ago, and would like to find it again! I remember that the "good" it referred to were Norwegian Lutherans who built a fish factory looking like a cathedral in the middle of a desert somewhere in the Horn of Africa, but the people they had hoped it would help were herdsmen who looked down on fishing as an occupation, so it remained unused. The "greedy" were Mobutu and his like.
I have had this dream maybe 4-5 times within the course of 1 year. All different scenerios, but same concept to get away and survive. It starts out where everything is normal then everything goes to hell and I find myself running through an environment trying to evade crazy people. My last one I was with my cousin walking back home through a city where it looked like there was a halloween festival going on only more extreme like satanic rituals going on in the streets and people wearing weird costumes like Jesters and monsters and such.
Last time I saw my cousin in the dream was when we went through an apartment building for a shortcut. He went through a door which had a fish hook trap. The trap would hook your ankle as you passed by and pull you up on top of the door where a small fire would burst and you’d burn alive. Well I saw it before hand and pushed my cousin through the door. The Trap went off and almost got me but didn’t. Once he went through the door I never saw him in my dream again. That trap also triggered the horrors of the dream to come. As I tried to run out of the building I was going from door to door. One room had gothic people bowing at something I couldnt really see which freaked me out so I ran through another door until I finally found the exit. Picture the weird homosexual looking guy from the movie Little Nicky that touches his nipples in the apartment. The apartment I was in was filled with those type of characters all staring at me awkwardly like I shouldn’t be there.
The rest of the dream Im running from scenery to scenery encountering different characters all trying to catch me for god knows what. One character yelled out "to sacrifice". So I guess they wanted to sacrifice me or something. One example of the different scenery’s I went through was a park and I also went through a cotton field. Near the end of the dream I found myself in a bathroom where I locked myself in. Well people are knocking on the door really violently so I try to open the small window in there but the other side has steel bars on it. Last I remember it was really quiet so I opened the door and ran for it. I was quickly tackled down by a bunch of people that looked like satanic worshippers wearing hoods. Thats where I woke up and was like WTF!!! just happened. It seemed like something out of a movie and boy it sure felt like it.
Yeah but I keep having the SAME DREAM!

I want your views on this matter as I think the gods don’t care about us what so ever but I would ay Poseidon is the best as Percy is a right brat in book 5 when he sees his daddy all old looking, if I was old fish head I would of blasted Percy out of the sea.

i must have sold on by accident without realising, it’s been 4 days in nookway’s upgrade tom nook hasn’t been selling the fishing rod. i checked in the catalague it’s not there. and i bought red turnips it’s been a week and can’t get it out. what to do pls help
